troll out

April 24, 2009

I never really came up with an idea I thought was good, but I did like this sketch, so I decided to just color it and be done.

Came out kinda hobbit-y, which I think is kinda cool.

It also looks a lot like a little side character I did for a 3d illustration made of sculpy in college… coincidence?

You can see the whole thing later today on drawergeeks, under Troll.

no more ninja

April 20, 2009

Not that I ended it gracefully (or found a way to make it funny), but I put an end to the ninja theme.

I kinda like the direction I’m going now, with no gray and texture…

I also kinda liked the word backgrounds, but I think I like this better maybe…

I used to do word backgrounds with the texture, so maybe I’ll try that for this.

I also learned that not only is my eyesight shot for using brush and ink (I finally bought new ink), but my hand is rather unsteady as well… I might have to try a traditional pen nib with the ink instead of a brush and see how that goes… or I could buy a new, non piece of crap brush…

nah, why go crazy, right?…

trolling for an idea…

Next drawergeeks assignment is Trolls.

I don’t really have even the seed of an idea, but I thought perhaps if I sketched some, something would come to me.

There’s always that chance, right?

Seems like I should go funny with this one, but I keep having trouble with a funny idea, so I might give my first idea a shot which was a troll queen sorta character with a troll on a leash… though I don’t really have a vision for that one either…

easter goat

Well, I didn’t have time to do a Sparky, but that was only because I spent the weekend with my folks and didn’t get backĀ  until about 4 on Sunday.

I know, I know… I could have worked on it, but as you can see from the photo, I was accosted by a goat and my nerves were shot. I couldn’t possibly draw with my hand shaking so…

Okay, so it was a friendly goat that lived at the kennel where we had our dog for the weekend. They also had a rooster walking around. They were both friendly, though with a goat, can you ever really trust that they won’t go beserk and chew through the side of your car?

I highly recommend the kennel – blue sky dogs. They currently run $15 a day for boarding. They put dogs together with like temperments and let them play outdoors together, so if you have a friendly dog (which we do), your dog gets to play inside and outside with other dogs a lot of the day. Much better than being isolated in their own pen with a short potty break once or twice a day.

I think the goat was raised around dogs. He squats to do his business like a female dog… that’s not typical goat behavior is it?

Queen progress

Well, I didn’t get the drawergeeks assignment done, but I did do another sketch.

I kinda like the direction, so hopefully I’ll have time to do a finished version… or think of a cool way to finish this one.

how long will it go on?…

April 6, 2009

This joke seems tiresome to me now, so I’m going to have to wrap it up at some point.

And let’s face it… it wasn’t really funny to begin with.

But, since my goal is to try different ideas, it’s going pretty good. I’m liking the lack of gray on this one. I think the gray was detracting from the line work too much, though I’m not sure I like the sky texture now, but I’ll work on that next time around.

queen frostine… maybe

April 2, 2009

frostineWelp, the next drawergeeks is Candy Land. I dunno why, but I decided that I should do Queen Frostine, and that she should be menacing (c’mon, the whole game encourages tooth decay, so why shouldn’t she be creepy).

I’m going to mess around with some color sketches this time around and see what I can come up with. Plus I figure it’s high time I actually behave like a professional illustrator and do numerous sketches to find the right pose/setting…we’ll see how long this lasts…

Sadly, I didn’t get a Sparky done last week, but that’s mainly because I used him as the subject of drawergeeks (Dragon). So, you can get your fix there until I finish the next one.
